How Much Does Wheelchair Transportation Cost in the Inland Empire? (2026 Prices)

Ranges reflect what Southern California operators actually charge across the region. Larger companies near Los Angeles tend to sit at the top of each range, and gurney (stretcher) transport is a different, more expensive service entirely, typically $200–$650 base.
What real trips cost: three worked examples
- Chino Hills to Chino Valley Medical Center (~10 miles): $75 + $45 = about $120 one way.
- Chino Hills to Kaiser Ontario or Pomona Valley Hospital (~20 miles): $75 + $90 = about $165 one way.
- Chino Hills to a specialist in Riverside or Anaheim (~30 miles): $75 + $135 = about $210 one way.
Round trips with waiting are usually the better deal for medical appointments: one booking, a discounted combined base, and the van is already there when the appointment ends, so there's no scrambling for a return ride.
What changes the price
- Distance is the biggest factor, and mileage is most of the bill on longer trips.
- Time of day: pickups between 7pm and 7am, weekends, and holidays carry surcharges at almost every company (ours is a flat +$50).
- Stairs: if the rider must be assisted up or down flights of stairs, expect a per-flight charge.
- Wait time: appointments that run long are billed in 15-minute blocks after a free grace period.
- Equipment: riders in their own wheelchair are standard; oxygen accompaniment adds a small fee. Bariatric or gurney needs are quoted separately everywhere.
Doesn't Medicare or Medi-Cal pay for this?
Sometimes, but not the way most families expect. Original Medicare generally does not cover non-emergency wheelchair van rides to routine appointments. Medi-Cal does cover NEMT for eligible members, but rides are arranged through your health plan's transportation broker, need advance notice, and you don't choose the company that shows up.
